A: That question is the subject of this website. There are
many formal, written definitions some of which are specific to
software packages or industries. A few are specific to
academic research.
At Predict Point we put those blinders aside and take on different ones! Just kidding. But, we do approach the answers from the perspective of how Predictive Analytics can be applied to small and medium size businesses.
Q: How does Predictive Analytics differ
from Data Mining?
A: The short answer is that they are nearly the same thing.
Data mining is the older term and is sometimes taken to mean the
more technical aspects of the processes of Predictive Analytics.
To be a little cynical, Predictive Analytics is a newer marketing term meant to make the subject of data mining seem less scary to business executives.
